Whats involved?
Testing
When testing electrical equipment and appliances the team of specialists conduct both visual and electrical testing to ensure that any problems are identified. When we test equipment, we look out for:
- Frayed wires and cords
- Safety switches that are not tripping
- Any faults in wiring
- Moisture or chemical damage
- Current leaks or spikes
- Earthing faults
- Potential insulation issues
Tagging
Any piece of equipment that is not a fixed installation and is connected to electricity must be tagged. Some examples are:
- Office equipment such as computers and power adaptors
- Any trade tools
- All appliances in the workplace, such as kettles, toasters, coffee machines and water coolers
When tagging equipment, it will fall into two categories:
Construction / demolition – in these industries it is a requirement to use specific coloured tags based on which month the equipment was tested; and
Other – there are no legislative requirements to colour code tags, therefore the same colour tags are used to prevent confusion
